AREQUIPA

rich valley 7,740 feet above sea level.
The city is divided by the Chili River
and there are three volcanoes

AGUAS CALIENTES

Machu Picchu Town is also
known as Aguas Calientes. This is a very
small town originally settled in 1901 by
a few farmers. The railroad from Cusco
to Machu Picchu was first built in the
1920’s. Nowadays, the railroad covers a
total area of 110 kilometers. In order

necessary to stop at this town because
it is the closest town to Machu

long coast with dry desserts, rich

Huanchaco
is a small town located about 15 minutes
from downtown Trujillo. This is a quiet
town with a nice pier and a beautiful,
long beach. During the summer months (January
to March), Huanchaco receives a lot of
visitors from all over Peru. Huanchaco
is known for its canoes made out of
reeds called “Caballito de Totora”.
