In
major cities, such as Lima, Arequipa,
Puno or Cusco, it is possible to
exchange money at banks, at small money
exchange stores, and at streets. Banks
usually pay less for foreign money than
small money exchange stores. Our
recommendation is that you stay away
from people who exchange money on the
streets (you might get a falsify bill),
and if you exchange money at small
stores, please make sure they are able
to operate (City working permits.)
In
most of the cities, you will find an ATM
machine. Some of them only provide
Peruvian Soles. ATM owners usually
charge a transaction fee and your bank
will also charge a foreign transaction
fee. It is recommended that you contact
your bank before you go to Peru so they
know your card is being use in a foreign
country and at the same time you ask for
foreing transaction fee.
If
you need someone to send you money from
your country, we recommend you to do it
through
Money Gram,
Xoom or
Western Union.
